What is an Invoice Scam?

Invoice Scams are a type of cyber attack known as a Business Email Compromise.

 

An attacker may install malicious software or use stolen credentials to obtain access to their email account, and proceed to send fake invoices via email to real business clients.

 

Given that the email was sent from a legitimate employee account, the client often pays the fake invoice.

It's important that you know what to look out for when receiving email invoices  and what you can do to ensure they are legitimate.
